I Hope You Fail

Okay, so that's pretty harsh language but I get the impression that people may have felt that way before.

Group projects for example; there is always one person who puts in more work than the others. If you're the person who did all the work then maybe, just maybe, you are hoping the others fall on their face so then everyone knows you did all the work.

Maybe its a theater audition for the lead part. Every person who wants the part is secretly hoping that they get it and the others don't.

In class, you see people not paying attention. They are using their phones, watching videos on their laptops, or more concerned with personal conversations.

I think its less about hoping someone fails and more about wanting your efforts to be recognized. If everyone in the group got equal credit, then what was the point of going the extra mile? If you sang your heart out and practiced every day and still lost the part to someone who walked in off the street off a whim, then why did you try so hard? What if you went to class every day, paid attention, practiced, and then somehow your grade is worse than those who didn't, what was the point?

Just what is the fucking point?

Let's be honest, if the only satisfaction you get is knowing you did the right thing, acted the right way, were the bigger person, then that really sucks.

You didn't get the credit for your hard work, you don't get to show your talent, and you don't have the grade to show for your effort.

I really don't know the point but I just know that it sucks.
